Velen van ons willen graag gastvrij zijn. Maar om een goede gastheer of gastvrouw te zijn, is het een eerste vereiste om zorgvuldig te overwegen wie we in ons huis uitnodigen.

Gaan we met evenveel zorg, aandacht, en wijsheid te werk bij het bepalen welke gedachten – of “gasten” – we in ons bewustzijn binnenlaten? Zijn we bereid om gedachten en verkeerde opvattingen die onenigheid veroorzaken, uit ons mentale huishouden te zetten, en in plaats daarvan gedachten toe te laten die inspireren en genezen?

De studie van Christian Science laat zien dat het belangrijk is om waakzaam te blijven over welke gedachten we erop nahouden. Mary Baker Eddy, de ontdekster en grondlegster van Christian Science, leert dat onze ervaring wordt bepaald door wat we in onze gedachten koesteren. In haar boek Unity of Good staat: “Alles is even werkelijk als u het maakt, en niet meer. Wat u ziet, hoort, voelt, is een staat van bewustzijn, en kan geen andere werkelijkheid hebben dan de betekenis die u eraan geeft (blz. 8).
