Do you ever feel that your life is out of balance? Perhaps you spend too much time at work and not enough time with your family. What if your finances are out of balance? You have more bills than money to cover them. And when we look at the greater problems facing our communities or countries, is there a role we as individuals can play, wherever we live, that will bring out the peace and balance needed in government and politics, our natural environment, education, and the media?
Everyone has a right to equanimity and peace in their lives. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, has some refreshing words to say about finding balance. She says: “I will gain a balance on the side of good, my true being. This alone gives me the forces of God wherewith to overcome all error" (
Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896,
p. 104).
In other words, finding balance is not so much a matter of trying to juggle a lot of disparate elements in our lives or the lives of our communities and maybe hit the occasional sweet spot of balance, but instead comes from discovering more of God's true being and ours. This will bring out the harmony, right activity, stability, progress, fulfillment, and peace that are already ours to live and to express.
